A lot of people think that this is just about a play/performance. This cultural/education project is about the development of a mindset for appreciating the historic contributions of our Ancestors and building community based theater program where we use the performance to develop talent and teach basic theater techniques as well as to develop funds to pay for the program. We use the Harlem Renaissance Era mindset as our model because those Ancestors were denied and came together to make it happen and not wait on somebody's approval, Black or White. Bottom line is to move the program beyond and allow it to stand on its own.

Oscar Micheaux Program Purpose

Theatre can empower
individuals and communities. Theatre is a
force that can unite, uplift, teach, build
communities, inspire, and heal.

The Oscar Micheaux Theater program as sponsored by Tri-Ad Veterans League, Inc.’s is a repertoire community based family theater program and has used the principle of collaboration strategically for its growth. One of the goals is to become a traveling troupe, performing at venues at educational/cultural institutions and in places that do not normally see cultural productions in the format of music and dance based on history generate sustaining funds to defray expenses and for small scholarship development. Sponsorship is encouraged through being a sponsor of the entire performance, block ticket purchases or donations either financially or in-kind services. Sponsor’s names are included in all promotional publications during the performance season and are guest at the promotional and the annual thank you program held at the close of the production season.

Project Goals:

§  To establish a year-round community based family theater organization.

§  To perform a full theater production at learning institutions or community venue giving community folks the opportunity to see a full staged production by people from the community.

§  To teach the importance of community service through performance.
